Home isn’t quite where I expected to find it
When we often think of home we think of a place, maybe a place of permanence
But over this past season, my definition of home has changed
I no longer see it solely defined as a house or where I grew up
I see it more as a familiarity rather than a location
Some people say home is where the heart is and I believe there is some truth to that.
But I also disagree seeing that little pieces of my heart have broken off all over the world with different people and different places.
My heart aches just a bit as I find myself in a familiar place that was once home and is once again becoming like home.
Although the sun shines brighter, giving off a warmth unlike before, the sea remains the same and the side walks are still uneven.
Our little home of 12 girls is different than the apartment of 15 people.
A piece of my home isn’t with me this time around
The familiarity of a place that I still have WiFi connection to, is missing something.
It’s not a bad something it’s just a different something/ someone.
My definition of home is changing. It’s a bitter sweet change.
As the fall colors poke through, the seasons also change in my own life.
The candle at the table burns bright, revealing new faces.
Some faces that I didn’t expect to see, others that have been with me a long time, and some that have bloomed and blossomed like the purple tree I walked by today.
It feels like home as we get ready for dinner, in a crowded apartment, filled with people I’ve grown to love.
Not only grown to love, but also watch grow even though I’ve only known them for a little while.
It feels like home, as I sit by the sea, with the sun on my face and the wind in my hair
The reminder that seasons, people, places, and homes change, but God remains the same yesterday, today and forever!
I myself have changed, and maybe that’s why the definition of home changes?
Because as we change the idea of home changes with us.
I know that home will change this year bringing different people and places along.
As things change, I hope that I change and I pray that I see lives changed because of the name of Jesus!
The unchanging God of the universe is my dwelling place, in whom I take refuge
What a joy it is to be in this season, with these people, at this time!
This is home
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:1-2
